Ever since Ketan Mehta decided to revamp his ambitious big budget film Rani Laxmibai with Kangna Ranaut as the protagonist, the film has been subjected to several speculations. Now it seems that it has been put on hold.

Readers may be aware that Kangna Ranaut is currently busy shooting for Hansal Mehta’s Simran in the U.S. While she had earlier mentioned about starting her preps for Rani Laxmibai, the film has now faced a setback due to a stringent budget. Reports suggest that the period drama has gone over budget and the film hasn’t received a backing from any studio as yet. The film was supposed to go on floor by the end of the year after Kangna wrapped up a major schedule of Simran but considering the current situation it is being said that the film as of now only exists in paper.

Ketan Mehta announced Rani Laxmibai years ago with Sushmita Sen in the lead but the film failed to take off even then.

Kangna Ranaut, who was last seen in Imran Khan starrer Katti Batti last year will next be seen in the Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor starrer Rangoon, which is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and is based on the backdrop of the Second World War.
