Okay, so it has been a largely terrible year for 2016 so far, what with high profile disasters like Mohenjo Daro, Fitoor, Mirzya and Great Grand Masti, and Fan turning out to be an unexpected flop. While there have been more than 50 flops and disasters out of 100 odd releases so far, the failure of these five high profile films has hurt the most. As audiences gear up for the remainder of the year starting with the BIG Diwali releases, the industry is hopeful that this season would result in over Rs. 500 crore from five major releases that are set to arrive in a span of eight weeks.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil: Ranbir Kapoor may have been going through poor times at the Box Office but the young and talented actor was always due for a big one. On the other hand Anushka Sharma holds the record for the biggest Blockbuster of 2016, Sultan. Karan Johar fired all cylinders for the romantic drama, a zone that he excels in, and his songs from the film did the trick too by marching up the popularity charts. The film has done well to collect Rs. 35.6 crore over the weekend and the way film is currently doing, it should go past the 100 crore mark, hence also bringing Karan in the Rs. 100 Crore Club.

Shivaay: Ajay Devgn may occasionally come up with an Action Jackson but an actor of his calibre is bound to strike big with his most ambitious film ever, Shivaay. When even his rather small film Drishyam too did a business of Rs. 77 crore, Shivaay is expected to scale much higher boundaries. Ajay’s biggest grosser till date is Singham Returns [Rs. 140 crore] and that was after taking a record start. Though records are not on the anvil for Shivaay since the film has released pre-Diwali, it is bound to peak from Monday onwards.

Dear Zindagi (November 25): This is one film which is pretty much akin to ‘band mutthi’. No one really knows what the film is all about. More importantly, there is absolutely no clue around how much part does Shah Rukh Khan have in the film. Some say it is a cameo, others have said it is a special appearance and then many have claimed that it is a special part and without him, the film is not complete. That said, one thing seems likely that this is not a quintessential Shah Rukh Khan film. With Alia Bhatt in company of Aditya Roy Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor, Ali Zafar and Angad Bedi, it would all boil down to all the teasers that would be the deciding factor.

Befikre (December 9): On its announcement, Befikre was quite hot with Aditya Chopra and Ranveer Singh coming together for the first time as director and actor. However, the unveiling of ‘Labon Ka Karobaar’ wasn’t quite well received universally. Later, when the promo was released, it saw polarized reactions coming its way. Some loved its cool ambience and treatment; others wondered where was it actually headed. Vishal-Shekhar’s music would have a role to play in film’s opening. With less than 40 days remaining for the film’s release, there can well be a good turnaround on the cards.

Dangal (December 23): Aamir Khan’s last two releases had set the record for the highest grosser ever of the time when they were released. Dhoom 3 [2013] had netted Rs. 284 crore and then PK [2014] made Rs. 340.8 crore, a record that is still intact. No wonder, Dangal is expected to set a hat-trick of All time Blockbusters for Aamir Khan. While one can’t really put a ceiling on where would the film eventually land, even in the worst case scenario, it would make it to the Rs. 200 Crore Club at the least. That’s when we are talking about it very conservatively!
