dangal actress zaira wasim lashes out on sports minister vijay goel

Dangal actress Zaira Wasim, whose performance in the movie was highly appreciated had run into a major controversy a few days ago. The 16-year-old actress had found herself in cyber bullying after she had met with the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Sayeed. Zaira Wasim later released an apology letter in which she requested everyone not to consider her as a role model. Later, the post was deleted but it created a huge stir in the country.

But, it seems like the actress has run into another row while engaging in a war of words with Sports Minister, Vijay Goel. The exchange began when Vijay Goel attended the inauguration of The India Art Festival in Delhi on 19 January and came across a painting that he felt reminded him of the story of girls like Zaira. The painting in question showed a girl in hijab, while in the foreground, a young girl sits trapped in a birdcage.

This painting tells a story similar to @zairawasim, पिंजरा तोड़ कर हमारी बेटियां बढ़ने लगी हैं आगे | More power to our daughters!

Zaira Wasim was definitely not in a mood to be appreciative about Goel’s observations and lashed out on the Sports Minister for sending a wrong message through his tweets.

@VijayGoelBJP Sir, with all respect to you, I feel I must disagree. I request you not to connect me to such a discourteous depiction. (1/3) https://t.co/BIgWVstqZh

@VijayGoelBJP Moreover, the story depicted through this painting is not even remotely relevant to mine. (3/3)

Then, Vijay Goel backtracked after Zaira’s tweets and insisted that she took it in wrong way. It wasn’t his intention to hurt the actress and that she had misunderstood what he was attempting to say. Zaira did not reply to the minister’s final tweets.

You have interpreted wrong. I appreciated your work and stated that evil and patriarchal notions must be discouraged. https://t.co/OPBy5EZifN

I’m afraid you still haven’t understood. But I wish you all the very best and appreciate your work. Hope to meet & interact too. https://t.co/h2RK3K3zIB
