Rangoon (22)

Shahid Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan’s Rangoon is all set for release this week and a rather interesting observation was made. Saif Ali Khan’s reel life character doesn’t have his right hand and a backstory for the same too has been portrayed in the film.

From what we hear, Saif Ali Khan, who plays the role of film producer Rusi Billimoria in Rangoon, also has a past where he was an action star. A hazard on the sets of one of his films results in him losing his right hand. During a cow boy style stunt on top of a train, he has an accident because of which Rusi loses his hand. In fact, Saif Ali Khan is seen wearing a mechanical hand and some of the scenes showcase him without that too.

It has been learnt that through VFX, the makers decided to remove his hand. One of the reasons for adding this as a part of his reel character is said to be an injury he sustained in real life. Readers may be aware that, last year, we had reported that Saif Ali Khan had injured his thumb on the sets of Rangoon. He was also seen making frequent trips to a suburban hospital for the treatment of the same.  Apparently, the makers decided to incorporate this element as a part of the script.

Rangoon, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, is a period romantic war drama set at the backdrop of World War II and is a ‘Casablanca’ style love triangle. The film is scheduled to release today.
