Akshay Kumar's remark on 'taking away his National award' - Serious or sarcasm

Was Akshay Kumar serious when he commented about his National award? Or was there clear case of sarcasm into play? Well, this has been a topic of debate since yesterday; moments after a minute long clip featuring him answering to a journalist went viral.

At an event when a journalist questioned Akshay around what did he think of repeated allegations that whether he indeed deserved the National Award for Rustom, the actor answered that such controversies come up every time someone wins an award. He further added that people always do tend to feel that someone else deserves it. However, what resulted in a headline was a remark that Akshay made where he said rather sarcastically and laughingly, “26 saal ke baad award mila hai aur woh bhi kuch logon se bardaasht nahi ho raha hai. Agar aisa hai toh award le lo.”

No wonder, in the last few hours, quite a few news pieces have screamed that ‘Akshay Kumar wants to return his award’, which in actuality is far from true. On seeing the video, I can vouch for the fact that the actor was hurting when he made this remark since during last few days he has been asked this question repeatedly.

However, as is the trend, many out there tend to pick what they wish to hear and that was the case here as well.

While it is apparent that he wasn’t serious about what he felt, it was further reaffirmed when I thought of taking a chance and prod him for a comment. On being asked if he was serious or was there sarcasm in play, all that Akshay texted back with a smile was, “Sarcasm, Joginder, sarcasm.”

Well, that should set all the speculations to rest. The National winner is happy with the honour bestowed upon him and it is indeed a moment to cherish for a lifetime.
