Nawazuddin Siddiqui faces a flop, says he’s proud of Munna Michael

Many regard Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the finest living actor in Bollywood. The audience breaks into appreciative applause when he appears on screen. In 2017 his performances in Haraamkhor, Raees and Mom have been highly appreciated.

However his latest release, Munna Michael where he plays a gangster hell-bent on impressing the girl of his dreams with his dubious dancing skills has come in for a fearsome amount of flak.

But Nawaz is unfazed, “There are so many people who have liked what I’ve done in Munna Michael. I had a lot of fun dancing in this film. It was very liberating. I had this mental block about dancing. I never thought I’d be able to carry it off. And if I’ve pulled it off I must say I am relieved. Izzat bach gayi.”

The method actor goes on to explain why it is essential for him to explore new characters constantly. “I can’t bear to repeat myself. It was a relief to do something light-hearted in Munna Michael. I got along really well with Tiger Shroff and (director) Sabbir Khan. I’ve no regrets at all about doing Munna Michael,” says the actor who will next be seen playing an outlaw one more time in Kushan Nandy’s Babumoshai Bandookbaaz.

“There are different kinds of cinema being made in our country. This is a very exciting time to be an actor. I can do a Munna Michael and Babumoshai Bandookbaaz and then go straight into Manto. No actor could hope to find more opportunities,” says Nawaz enthusiastically.
