Rakul Preet Singh turns ambassador for ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ campaign on International Day of Girl Child

International Day of the Girl Child is observed every year on October 11, since 2012. The United Nation states that there are 1.1 billion girls today brimming with talent and creativity but violence, discrimination and the lack of equal opportunities serve to thwart the dreams and potential of many of them. The day is marked so as to draw attention to the issues that  these girls face in every facets of their lives , ranging from female feticide and infanticide which results in the low sex ratio,  child marriages, poor access to health care, low enrollment and retention in education, sexual assault and harassments, to name a few.

On this occasion, in an event held in Hyderabad, Rakul Preet Singh was named the Brand Ambassador of the Beti Bachao Beti Padao campaign.

A source close to the actress said, “Rakul is not just a multilingual actress working across industries with a PAN India reach but is also known for her philanthropic initiatives for children especially girl children in difficult circumstances, thus, making her the most apt choice as the ambassador of the campaign. The Women Development and Child Welfare Department, State of Telangana, recognizing her work in the field and the influence she would have in swaying the perception of the public masses have decided to take this association forward.”

Commenting further on this initiative, Rakul Preet said, “I am honoured to be chosen as the brand ambassador and would fulfill my social responsibilities to the best of my ability as all of us owe it to the girls of the state and the country.” In fact, recently, on October 10, which marks the birthday of the Yaariyan actress, Rakul did not opt for a filmy birthday instead decided to celebrate it with orphans.
