She was a pivotal element in the core plot of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s revenge drama Jazbaa which released exactly a couple of years ago. Now after keeping her hands full with shooting of multiple films in the months gone by, she is gearing up for her first Hindi solo lead film as a leading lady, Dil Jo Na Keh Saka. Meet Priya Banerjee, the young actress of Indian origin from Canada, who has been making her presence felt in the film industry for four years now and is now looking at making a big splash in next 12 months.
“I have been lucky actually to be seeing such a warm welcome from everyone in the industry,” says Priya who is a complete outsider not just for Bollywood in general but also the country, “You hear so many stories about how it is so tough to make it in this industry. However, you just need to be patient enough and also count on your luck. It is the combination of both that has worked out well for me.”
While she started her career down South right at the onset, it has been at a steady pace that Bollywood has begun to warm up for her as well. With as many as four films in different stages of production, Priya is aiming to kick start her campaign with Dil Jo Na Keh Saka.
“It is a sweet romantic film that would be loved by the teenagers and the campus crowds,” smiles Priya, “It has been a while since a date film came out of Bollywood; this one should fit the bill.”
As for her journey so far in Bollywood, she is happy with the pace and the content of work that is coming her way.
“I truly believe that Bollywood has been very receptive towards me. In fact why just Bollywood but the film industry in general since I have had similar happy experience down south as well. Even though I didn’t know the language that was never seen as a hindrance. They always supported me,” she says.
While she gets ready for the promotional drive of her next and then films to follow, Priya says on a parting note, “It feels so nice to be able to do what I love. I am getting used to the world of films and am definitely sticking around. I feel so lucky to be able to do that. Hopefully it would stay that way.”
