Just a couple of days ago, Kangana Ranaut released a statement about her extending support to Deepika Padukone who has been facing many threats due to the Padmavati controversy. However, when Shabana Azmi had earlier asked Ranaut to support her ‘Deepika Bachao’ campaign, the actress refused to be a part of it. Clarifying on the same, Kangana recently revealed the reason behind her action.
The entire campaign of ‘Deepika Bachao’ started after a bounty was announced on the actress for beheading her by a certain group of activists since she played the role of Rani Padmini in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati. The film that is surrounded by controversies however found supporters amongst the fraternity and one amongst them was Shabana Azmi who also clearly expressed her displeasure in the way Deepika was publicly threatened.
However, the actress’ action fuelled up speculations about her standing against Deepika owing to their alleged feud in 2014. The year saw Deepika dedicating her award [for Best Actress – Happy New Year] to Kangana Ranaut [for Queen] but Kangana had stated that she would be more appreciative had the actress personally applauded the film by calling or telling her instead of announcing it publicly. After the same, there were many stories of an alleged cold war between the two.
But putting an end to all these speculations, Kangana Ranaut had reinstated the fact that she supported Deepika Padukone in this fight for Padmavati but at the same time maintained that she did not want to support someone who character assassinated her indicating at Shabana Azmi. During the Hrithik Roshan – Kangana Ranaut that resurfaced a few months ago, Azmi had not only come out in support of Hrithik but according to Kangana, Azmi had even character assassinated her whilst she was being bullied. And that was the reason why she did not want to support Azmi’s campaign.
On the other hand, Kangana Ranaut rubbished all rumours of her non-cooperation towards ‘Deepika Bachao’ campaign but instead asserted that she can support anyone she likes without anyone else supporting her choice.
