Back in 2010, Aditya Chopra launched a new and unknown face in the form of Ranveer Singh with the film Band Baaja Baaraat. Now years on Ranveer has quite literally achieved the pinnacle of success. Be it for his on screen characterizations in films like Lootera, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela, Gunday, Dil Dhadkne Do, and Padmaavat to name a few, or for that matter his off screen persona Ranveer Singh is and has become the quintessential superstar. But away from the past, Ranveer Singh is certainly a happy man with his latest release Padmaavat crossing the highly exclusive Rs. 300 cr mark, and talking about the same was the actor himself at News18’s India Rising event. Commenting on his meteoric rise, Ranveer states that he sometimes finds it hard to believe he is actually there saying, “Sometimes I wake up thinking I am living a dream”.

But it isn’t just that, Singh further talks about how happy and excited he is with Padmaavat touching the Rs. 300 cr mark. “God is very kind. Producer happy toh I am very happy that’s what I say. It’s awesome, a film does this big numbers, your films become bigger they reach a wider audience it is really very very empowering. I am really very very happy that this figure has been reached especially for the sake of the producers. They took a big risk investing that amount of money, mounting such an expensive film. So I am really very happy for them.”

Though modest, Ranveer Singh does not shy away from taking credit where due. When quizzed about how it feels to be at the top Singh added, “I couldn’t tell you how I got here. Honestly I ought to be pinching myself. Today sitting here, in front of you all and every day something really small happens and I think to myself is this really happening? I wake up thinking I am living a dream, because I was this one kid who was this bollywood fixated, fascinated, obsessed almost, growing up watching Hindi movies wanting to be part of Hindi movies in some capacity with really no guarantee, in fact it was quite a long shot, given where I was. So in a way I would say I have made my own luck.”

Well, be it luck, sheer acting chops or pure hard work, we have to admit that in a day and age where an actor’s popularity is defined not by his skill but by his last box office performance, Ranveer Singh has become and is the new age superstar.
