USA: Free $30 Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…Vidya Balan They couldn't see eye to eye in The Dirty Picture. And now even in their latest release Ghanchakkar; they have shared a rather quirky relationship with each other. While Vidya Balan has formed an unconventional pairing with Emraan Hashmi, she hasn't let go of her experimental streak that has taken her places during last three years.

What is it between you and Emraan? The two of you are always finding each other in a different space during your on-screen encounters.
(Laughs) Ask me! It has become a trend. Silk and Abraham (their on-screen names in The Dirty Picture) hated each other and now after being in five years of marriage, Neetu and Sanju aren't really singing songs around the trees. I think what we have done is project a very normal husband-wife relationship. Aisa hi toh hota hai asli zindagi mein. Thoda pyaar hota hai, thodi anban hoti hai. As an actor though, one thing that I can say is that whenever Emraan and I would be paired opposite each other, there would be a love-hate relationship. Kuch gussa, kuch pyaar, kuch nok-jhok toh rahegi!

In between this all, you have also turned kinky with him in the film.
Arrey shaadi hui hai dono ki, masti bhi hoti hi hai (smiles). That's what is interesting part of a marriage, isn't it? When you see these moments on screen, you realise that yaar aisa hi toh hota hai. Also, even if you are not married and don't have such personal experiences, you would have surely seen and heard it from the other people. This is what we have done; derive the humour and drama from real people and situations.

No wonder, you have turned an everyday woman in the film as well. Your dresses seem to be totally out of place.
Arrey poocho mat; it is a challenge no less to be normal on screen instead of heroine like. My dress designer was terrified when I wanted all the odd choices for me. My director Rajkumar Gupta had to soothe her up and tell her that it was okay to go berserk with the dresses. I too chipped in and told her to stop looking at dressing up Vidya and instead think of Neetu. After all, she is a completely different person so whatever it takes, just go for it. That really helped her ease up. We had a lot of fun putting together these clothes and accessories. It was one lengthy process through.

The results were truly over the top.
Well, it's a win if this is the way it has come across on screen (smiles). If I am playing this hatti katti Punjabi aurat who is a regular middle class housewife, and has lived all her life in chaar deewani, she is bound to be cut off from the outside world. Her definition of being modern is restricted to wearing modern day clothes aur jo usse jod-tod ke ban pata hai, woh khud hi kar leti hai, be it in clothes or accessories. Obviously, results would be over the top. Par woh aapko funny lagega, uski liye toh yahi fashionable hai. She may be outlandish, but within her own self she is very happy.

And a little bewildered as well? Your character seems to be revelling on putting 'hain' at the end of every sentence.
I guess the lack of dialogues and the related flavour which had gone missing in No One Killed Jessica has been brought out well for me here. There, I had to be very plain and simple as Sabrina Lal. Mujhe bahaut kam bolna tha. Yahan toh bilkul ulta tha. It was like North and South. Rajkumar had faith in me that I would be able to pull it off. When someone is offering me a wild character like this, and that too in a genre that he has never tried before, I take that as a compliment and do what he wants me to.

For someone who has given five back to back award winning performances already, weren't you a tad apprehensive though?
See, I was a little nervous for sure since this was a non-chartered territory for me. Still, my confidence soared from the fact that the story and narrative is something that has not been explored before in Hindi cinema. I have a great level of trust in Rajkumar and trust him implicitly. I went with the flow.

Meanwhile, the film is also personal for you. After all, this is the first UTV film with Siddharth Roy Kapur which you are doing post marriage.
I have the greatest respect for UTV as a studio. In fact Parineeta, which was my first film, was distributed by them worldwide. That was also their first film that Sid had worked on when he joined them (smiles). Ab main kuch bhi aur zyaada bolungi toh aapko lagega yeh meri ghar ki baat hai. But look at the kind of films and talent they have backed over the years. Udaan, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Paan Singh Tomar, Barfi, No One Killed Jessica, Rang De Basanti – they have been just fearless. They are making so many path breaking films. In the middle of this all, they also make record breaking films like Rowdy Rathore!
