Amitabh Bachchan received the third Hridaynath Mangeshkar award for his contribution to the film industry. The prestigious Hridaynath Mangeshkar award which was supposed to be presented by Lata Mangeshkar to Bachchan was presented by filmmaker Subhash Ghai.

Commenting on his blog about the award, Bachchan posted, "And then a truly proud moment .. a reward at the hands of the Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar ji for my contribution to cinema. The traditional head wear of respect, the shawl of reverence and the garland of flowers, along with the priests from SiddhiVinayak and their chants, to the glittering tray replicating the temple and 71 'modaks' the religiosity of its temperament on a beautifully decorated tray, were all filled with an emotion difficult to describe .."
