And the gem was none other than the iconic actress and dancer Zohra Sehgal, who breathed her last in a New Delhi hospital. Readers may recall that the ever-smiling actress celebrated her 102nd birthday in April this year.
Born as Sahibzadi Zohra Begum Mumtaz-ullah Khan, she captured every cinegoers heart with stellar performances in all her films. She made her film debut in 1946 with Dharti Ke Lal, which was followed by Chetan Anand's Neecha Nagar, a film that won the top prize at the first Cannes Film Festival in 1946. Of late, she made her golden appearance on the silver screen in films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Dil Se, Veer-Zaara and many others.
