Amitabh and Illayraja too worked previously for Cheeni Kum and Paa. Being a fan of the musician, Big B also wrote about him saying, "How many years have passed since his emergence and how till today his prominence continues. Ilaiyaraja, was asked to write a symphony for the London Philharmonic some years ago. He wrote it without actually hearing the sound of it. And when he went to the Albert Hall in London for the performance of it by the Philharmonic he heard his own written symphony for the first time, and broke down into tears ! He had not known the depth of his construct till then .."
Shamitabh also stars South superstar Dhanush and marks the debut of Kamal Haasan's second daughter Akshara Haasan.
