USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…Today the Supreme Court quashed a six decade long rule prohibiting women from becoming makeup artists in the Indian film industry. The SC in its ruling ordered the permanent deletion of the rule from Maharashtra's trade union that allowed women to obtain memberships only as hair dressers but not as make-up artists.
The reason behind the establishing of this archaic rule was that if women were allowed to do so, male artists won't get any jobs. However, the SC observed that this provision was unconstitutional and said that such discrimination was highly gender biased.
In its order that came after a petition filed by Charu Khurana, who was denied a card, the SC directed the trade union to start issuing make-up artist cards to all eligible women and further directed the police to ensure they are not harassed at all.
