1. In Nawaz's native village Budhana in UP, there was no movie theatre. To see a film Nawaz and his 6 siblings had to trudge to the nearest town 45 kilometers away. So no sign of a cinematic background in his life.
2. As a child Nawaz would stand in front of the mirror and enact scenes that played in his head. There was no major reference point from the movies. In his entire growing-up years Nawaz saw no more than 5 films.
3. Was married while still young. His wife lived in his native village while he struggled to become an actor in Mumbai. Now she stays with Nawaz along with their only daughter.
4. Was initially offered only ruffians, henchmen, gangster and low-life roles. Was noticed in Kabir Khan's New York where he played a Muslim man wrongly accused of terror activities. His on-camera monologue expressing his character's torture and humiliation was so real because Nawaz was re-living his own 11-year struggle in Bollywood.
5. In Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani he was smartly dressed in suits for the first time. Nawaz couldn't believe he could carry it off. But carry off, he did…with great conviction.
6. While kissing his co-star Niharika Singh in Miss Lovely Nawaz confessed he had never kissed a woman before, not even his wife. Nawaz also confessed that he enjoyed his belated first kiss. Late bloomer as star-actor and a kisser.
7. Nawaz is a man of few words. He has no friends. And he can sit without speaking for hours in company. He hates being recognized and mobbed and runs away when praised and complimented.
8. Nawaz's most favourite actor and role-model is….no, not Naseeruddin Shah or Amitabh Bachchan. It's Ashish Vidyarthi.
9. His dream role: Prince Salim in Mughal-e-Azam. "I know I can pull it off," says Nawaz confidently.
10. Plans to take a longish sabbatical from acting soon, so he can re-charge his batteries.
