Hrithik Roshan was director Onir’s first choice to play the eponymous Hamlet. Now, he has cast Siddharth who, it is said, has agreed in principle to play the tragic hero.

For the role of Ophelia, Onir was keen on Chitarangada Singh who’s playing the lead in his Sorry Bhai. Reportedly, following her tantrums on the Mauritius locations, he is now contemplating to cast Siddharth’s steady date, Soha Ali Khan.

Boman Irani and Shabana Azmi have been finalised for the parts of King Polonius and Queen Gertrude. Bhavani Iyer (Black) is scripting the adaptation, which Ambika Hinduja was initially supposed to produce. Now Onir is apparently producing the film himself.

Too early
The director is wary about talking about Hamlet: “It’s too early. I’m busy with Sorry Bhai. If I start discussingHamlet, itwill be conjectured that I’m juggling with two films,” he says evasively.

Vis-à-vis Hrithik Roshan, he states, “The earlier producer wanted to cast Hrithik but I couldn’t even speak to him directly.Once I’m throughwith Sorry Bhai, I’ll return to Hamlet and start working on the cast. Shabanaji and Boman are friends and I’d love to work with them again.”
