Band Baaja Baaraat to go the Jab We Met way?

Band Baaja Baaraat has clearly turned out to be the most loved film of the season and is the only movie after Golmaal 3 to find some good appreciation coming its way. Of course the film hasn’t reached out to as wide an audience as Golmaal 3 since Yash Raj Films had (rightly) given it a select release and then waited for it to catch up with positive word of mouth. This is the reason why after being in theatres for one week and staying stable with collections not showing any drop whatsoever with every passing day, this Maneesh Sharma directed film is on a very positive ground. The picture isn’t yet over for this Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma starrer as theatres all over have given it ample screen space in the second week as well to hang on and perform. What goes in favour of Band Baajaa Baaraat is the fact that it is the kind of film where the shelf life isn’t limited to one single weekend and instead entices footfalls with a sustained run at the box office. After collecting around 10 crores in its first week, it is rest assured that the film will cross the 20 crores mark. However, what is indeed interesting to see is whether it would manage to hang on post the release of Tees Maar Khan as well. The challenge comes not just from Tees Maar Khan but also Toonpur Ka Superrhero as well as another young film Isi Life Mein. One can’t be too sure about the quality of these films as of now but the fact remains that a large number of screens would go to these new releases in the week to follow. This is the reason one just hopes that multiplexes keep at least 3-4 shows aside for Band Baaja Baaraat. It won’t be for the first time when something like this would happen. Even earlier, there has been trust shown in medium budget films like Jab We Met and Vivaah where the films, due to immense appreciation coming in, were allowed good screens for weeks in succession. If that happens, Band Baaja Baaraat could well enjoy success on the same lines as Jab We Met and Vivaah, both of which had enjoyed a very long run at the box office despite competition from biggies.
