Yesterday, reacting to the denial incident, Abdul Basit (Pakistan's High Commissioner to India) offered Anupam Kher a visa to travel to Karachi. However, Kher declined the offer, reasoning that he has already taken up other assignments on the dates that he had planned to visit Pakistan for the 'Karachi Literary Festival' (KLF).

Kher also said that the reason for him to be singled out of 18 others who had applied for the visa could be possibly because of his stand on the issue of Kashmiri Pandits and his support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While Abdul Basit tweeted

"@AnupamPkher you are always welcome Sir. You are a great artiste; we respect and admire you", Anupam Kher replied stating, "Thank you Mr. @abasitpak1 for your call & offering me visa to visit Karachi. I appreciate it. Unfortunately I've given away those dates now."

Meanwhile, the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi had stated that since Anupam Kher never submitted a visa application, the question of issuing or denying him a visa did not arise. On Tuesday, Anupam Kher got a tweet stating "@AnupamPkher sorry Sir I don't know who told you about this so-called NoC, we are still to receive your visa application and passport." On the other hand, Ameena Syed (KLF's spokesperson) said that the organizers had been advised by the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi to tell Anupam Kher not to submit his visa application as he would not be issued a visa.
