Dancers celebrate the upcoming International Indian Film Academy Weekend and Awards taking place across the GTA

Like a scene from a Bollywood movie, today dancers took to the streets of downtown Toronto to showcase their enthusiasm for the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards taking place across the GTA later this month. Organized by the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation (OTMPC), the flash mob was designed to ignite excitement for the upcoming celebrations, which will attract hundreds of Bollywood celebrities to Toronto, and reach millions of fans worldwide.

Dancing to Mauja Hi Mauja – Jab We Met, the enthusiastic dancers performed on the streets at Yonge and Bloor and Yonge and Dundas in Toronto as pedestrians watched in awe.

“One of the greatest things about Bollywood films is the impromptu dance scenes,” said Robin Garrett, President, OTMPC. “Today we brought this cinematic element to life, bringing pedestrians to a halt and immersing them in a celebration of Indian film and culture as Toronto prepares to host the upcoming IIFA Weekend and Awards.”

This year marks the IIFA Awards’ North American debut. The three-day celebration of Indian film and culture will take place June 23–25, 2011 and will feature a variety of fun-filled activities. The official IIFA Weekend and Awards program includes:

June 23rd

IIFA World Premiere

June 24th
‘IIFA ROCKS’ IIFA Foundation Fashion Extravaganza
IIFA Film Festival
FICCI/IIFA Global Business Forum

June 25th

The cities of Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton and Markham will also be hosting local IIFA Buzz events for all Ontarians and visitors to enjoy, including dance competitions, bazaars, food festivals and musical performances.
