REELWORLD announced its 12th annual Film Festival today at a media conference at the Cineplex theatres on Yonge Street in Toronto.
 
South Asia inspired movies will include the premiere of ‘A Golden Pen’- the story of a Hindi movie scriptwriter, Aghajani Kashmeri, who wrote scripts for many Hindi films back in the days before ‘Bollywood’ was penned, that starred legends Sunil Dutt, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Nargis, Sharmila Tagore, Saira Banu and more. Milestone interviews with the late Shammi Kapoor and Joy Mukherji just months before their passing are also featured in the movie.
 
Other South Asia based movies will include a horror/thriller film, ‘The Forest’, starring Javed Jaffrey and Nandana Sen; ‘Bonzai People’- a movie on the vision of Nobel prize winner Muhammad Yunus from Bangladesh, famous for spawning the avant-garde idea of micro-finance, to help the poor and needy to ‘learn how to fish’ and fend for themselves; a short 6 minute movie ’I want to be a Desi 2’; a documentary ,’My Country’ directed by 2010 Reelworld trailblazer award winner Lalita Krishna and last but not least the Bollywood bonanza, Kareena Kapoor’s ‘Ek Main aur Ekk Tu’,  gets the curtain call honors on Sunday, April 15.The director Shakun Batra is expected to be in attendance.
To kick off the gala night on April 11, Reelworld will screen the movie ‘LUV’ from the US. Many movies and videos from several parts of the world including US, Canada, India, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Germany and more will have their share of glory at this year’s Reelworld Film festival. Two Indo- Canadians, public relations pundit Tushar Unadkat (Mukta advertising and Nouveau Idea) and actor Rupinder Nagra (‘Amal’ and ‘Kurbaan’) will be honoured with the Reelworld Trailblazer Awards for their outstanding contribution to the world of cinema!
REELWORLD Film Festival is its founder’s, actress Tonya Lee Williams, dream come true and runs from April 11-15, 2012.Tonya has been the recipient of NAACP awards in the past and earlier in the year was honoured with the Martin Luther King Jr award. She will also be honoured with the Arts and Culture Award at the International Women Achievers’ Awards later this month and has been shortlisted by the Starmedia group for the top 25 immigrant awards this year. She had a vision to provide a platform for all cultures to showcase their work in the cinema world and REELworld has definitely achieved it!
