The Punjabi International Film Academy Awards to debut in Toronto, ON
 
The Punjabi International Film Academy is proud to announce that Toronto, Ontario will host the first ever Punjabi International Film Academy Awards weekend. The four-day long PIFAA Weekend and Awards will take place from August 3-5, 2012.
 
“The McGuinty Government is proud to welcome the premier Punjabi International Film Academy Awards,” said Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “Ontario is home to one of the most diverse populations in the world with a reputation for hosting internationally renowned film festivals and events. PIFAA will be a tremendous opportunity for Ontarians and visitors alike to celebrate our rich culture and discover why Ontario is a place to explore and experience.”
 
PIFAA is being launched to celebrate the important history of Punjabi film, the dominance of Punjabi people in Bollywood and the increasing international popularity of contemporary Punjabi films.
 
“The GTA alone boasts a Southeast Asian community of over 700,000, fifty percent of whom are Punjabi,” said Rajinder Saini, President of Parvasi Entertainment Inc, which is organizing PIFAA. “This gives Punjabi Cinema an immense and captive audience of Punjabi fans and an opportunity to bring this popular, fast growing and in demand film industry closer to all Canadians.”
 
PIFAA’s aim is to provide the Punjabi film industry with a global platform to reach audiences in international territories. Toronto, known for its cultural, entertainment and metropolitan scene, is the ideal choice for the inaugural PIFAA weekend.
 
PIFAA Toronto will bring hundreds of the world’s best and brightest Punjabi Cinema stars to Toronto for the Awards weekend. Punjabi mega-star and PIFAA Brand Ambassador Dharmendra will head-up the contingent of attending Punjabi film stars.
 
“I am very proud of the Punjabi community of Greater Toronto for executing what will be a landmark international event for Punjabis around the globe,” said Dharmendra Deol, PIFAA Brand Ambassador and Indian Cinema Star. “PIFAA is the ideal platform to recognize the significant impact the Punjabi community has had on Indian Cinema. I am thrilled to be part of the inaugural PIFAA weekend.”
 
The PIFAA Awards Weekend comprises five major events across the GTA including the PIFAA Inauguration Ceremony, PIFAA World Premiere, a mega-concert celebrating Punjabi music, the two-day PIFAA Trade Fair and the main PIFAA Awards Ceremony.
