Rating:

Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha’ Joker was much awaited because of the pair’s last bigger successful flick ‘Rowdy Rathore. The fans were eagerly waiting for the release. The film was not in news due to the director Shirish Kunder rather it was in news because of the money-knitting pairing of Akshay and Sonakshi. Well, the movie has eventually hit the screens all over.

Shirish comes up with really a strange subject which will go over the heads of the moviegoers. The director, guess so, is not aware of the fact that today’s audience is much intelligent and understands each and everything well. Thus to endow them with a weird kind of subject is not a good thing at all. The film really seems much alienated from our actual world. Shirish Kunder’s inspirations seem to be taken from the movies like Swades and Koi Mil Gaya.

The film talks about the village Pagalpur and the weird characters of the place. Plot is not enticing at all and the script has been done without giving much care to it. What Kunder wants to show to the audience is not much clear at all.

Agatya (Akshay Kumar), a NASA scientist, does not succeed in inventing a machine which helps the humans to communicate with the aliens. The man travels back to his native village, Pagalpur, that is not considered to be the part of India. By the time, the viewers are introduced to the village, it endows you with the feeling of a circus. Every character in this rural place is an utter madcap. The villagers lack in the basic facilities such as electricity and water. When there is no attention to solving the village’s problems, Agastya takes the initiative by creating a hoax involving the aliens so that the village’s problems could be highlighted.

Joker has no logic at all. Watch it by throwing your mind aside else leave the idea of watching this film since you will get utterly bored.

Screenplay is much weak and can be called the main culprit to the failure of this film. Shirish Kunder is the man behind this disaster. Guess, what he thought when he was writing the script? Direction too is not convincing at all. He fails at this junction as well. Kunder tries to show his numerous talents at this platform of Joker by writing story and script, directing the film, editing the movie, giving background music and even writing the lyrics. Wow is the word comes out of the mouth for this man’s brilliance. You guys – check his brilliance by your own by watching Joker.

Cinematography is appealing. It holds values. Music is just about okay. Editing is below average.

Akshay Kumar does a nice job but he does not seem to be in his usual elements. Sonakshi Sinha does not get much scope to deliver her histrionics. She is just a show piece. Shreyas Talpade is fine. Rest of the cast is average.

Final Verdict by the Critic:

Joker is a big failure. It will ruin Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha’s booming career. Avoid it.

Joker is Set to Arrive to Theatres on the 30th of August, 2012

When you see the name of the film and the star who is in the leading role, i.e. Akshay Kumar, it is only normal to get the idea that we are talking about a comedy here. But for all those people who think he is only interested in doing comedies, Akshay Kumar is all set to prove them wrong. This time he is going to present himself in a never-before-seen avatar that is bound to give both his fans and his critics something to talk about.

The film is directed by the director of Jann-E-Mann, who is also the husband of renowned director and producer Farah Khan. The director has termed this new film of his as an adventure fantasy or a superhero film. Going by the recent trend of 3D films in Bollywood, it is no surprise that Sirish Kunder is interested in launching a 3D version of Joker as well. So, after the success of its predecessors, Don 2, Haunted and Ra One, the audience would no doubt be waiting to see what surprises Joker has in store for them.

The director claims that Joker is a film that will deal with the issue of Global warming without being preachy, i.e. in a light and fun away. It has also been planned that there will be a Joker 2 and Joker 3 following this film, even before its release.  If not anything else, this is a proof of the high expectations that the director and producer has from Joker.

Akshay Kumar is supposed to be seen in a dual role in Joker, one being a contemporary westernised avatar and the other a very ethnic Indian local look with dhotis. His fans can once again expect to see their favourite hero in a role that demands a lot of action.

Opposite Akshay, we will get to see the ‘Dabangg’ lady Sonakshi Sinha and Sreyas Talpade will be playing the role of Akshay’s brother. Minisha Lamba is cast opposite Sreyas.

The music has been given by the nephew of A.R. Rahman, G.V. Prakash Kumar who is making his debut as a music director in Bollywood with Joker. He has given the music of many South Indian films before this. The date of the music release is yet to be announced.
