The South Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church Orphans Trauma and Healing Centre which houses 170 orphan has been submerged, forcing the children to remain in their classes.
The centre caters for children whose parents were killed during clashes between the Lou Nuer and Murle ethnic communities at Pieri payam last August.
“We decided to round up all the orphans to keep them away from the conflict zone. The floods have confined the children to their classrooms as they cannot move within the compound”, said the centre’s manager Peter Yien.
{ads1}He added that in spite of the flooding, the orphans were facing numerous challenges including inadequate food supplies and learning materials.
An orphan at the centre, Thap Chol, appealed to the government to supply school uniforms and shoes to the centre. Read more

Violence broke out inside and outside a Sydney court as the judge announced the punishment of the 20 year old man who stabbed a teenager to death. The punishment announced was for a minimum of four years of imprisonment on Friday.
The mother of the victim teenager, Christine Burrows, burst into tears at the time the judge announced the punishment for the murderer of her son, Jay William Cook. She could not control herself from screaming once the verdict was announced. At the same time, someone from the public threw an object at Cook as he stood in the conviction box hearing his formal punishment. Cook had to duck down to avoid the object thrown at him. Justice Peter Garling immediately suspended the session of the court and asked everyone to... Read more

After Conrad Black, 67, returned to Ottawa on one-year residency permit, he deems of regaining his Canadian citizenship. Black shows interest in applying to get his Canadian citizenship back but would wait until the matter seems appropriate.
"I always intended to take my citizenship back when that was appropriate. I would have done it long ago if we hadn't been interrupted by this nonsense in the United States," Black said.
Black came back to Canada after serving over three years in Florida prison. He was convicted for fraud and obstruction of justice. Despite the fact that Black had given up his Canadian citizenship in 2001 in order to gain British citizenship, it was generally believed that he eventually wanted to come back to his home in Toronto's elite Bridle Path neighborhood.

Forecaster MeteoGroup has conveyed to the Brits, longing to enjoy the sunny summer that they will finally be able to get rid of their winter clothes and bask in some warming rays after weeks of grey skies by predicting a surge in temperatures.
Brits are told by the forecasters to welcome summer this week with balmy temperatures of up to 25C expected to grace some parts of the country following the early-Spring washout.
A forecaster at MeteoGroup, Tom Tobler has said: "It's certainly turning quite warm this week and things will really start to heat up from Wednesday onwards. The temperature will begin to rise today, with a fair amount of cloud mixed with sunshine, but people will really start to notice a difference tomorrow."
Experts have told that the temperatures will likely to reach... Read more

With Europe still circling the white porcelain bowl, I thought it was time to revisit the fiscal situation in Germany, the lynchpin that seems to be the only thing that is holding Europe together.
It is still very early in the fiscal year so trends in Germany's finances are relatively meaningless at this point in time. However, there is still some interesting information to be gleaned from the latest Federal Ministry of Finance Monthly Report for March 2012 and the March 2012 Federal budget key figures.
Let's open by looking at a chartshowing the fiscal deficit for January to March of 2011 compared to the same period in 2012 and the projected deficit for the entire fiscal year:
The deficit for the three month period was €24.04 billion, down marginally from €25.499 billion... Read more

Air India has incurred losses worth Rs. 188 crore on Thursday as the strike entered its 10th day with no talks of resolving the situation. The government has stated that the losses the carrier is bearing are falling on the shoulders of the workers whereas the workers claim otherwise.
One of the senior officials of Air India spoke to the media and said, “We are currently operating under the contingency plan, in which we are operating a bare minimum number of international operations by clubbing flights to destinations in Europe and the US. We have lost about Rs.188 crore due to ticket cancellations, unused labor and with a bulk of our Boeing-777 fleet grounded. Our losses per day stand at Rs.13 crore.”

Ali Motahari slams Revolutionary Guards Corps
Conservative lawmaker Ali Motahari has accused the Revolutionary Guards Corps of “meddling” in the country’s 2012 parliamentary elections.
Addressing fellow parliamentarians on Sunday, Motahari said the IRGC’s role in the 2 March elections was a “point of weakness” for the elite fighting force. He argued that the IRGC’s involvement in the vote had had a “damaging” impact on the military organisation, as well as the Islamic Republic itself.
“The IRGC’s interference in many of the polling stations was evident and many of the candidates—both those who were elected and those who weren’t—confirm this reality.”
The MP stated that during the election process, the IRGC “seriously backed” candidates it wished to see in parliament. “The IRGC’s interference in the elections was damaging to itself, and a danger to the... Read more

The coalition partners of the ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam, threatened the government on Friday over breaking their partnership and joining hands with the opposition regarding the issue of power failure in Pakistan.
The party claims that it is clear that the government is not doing anything about the power crisis and the nation is left in the dark as leaders play around for their own personal benefits other than focusing on the needs of the people. One of the members of PML-Q Kamil Agha Khan expressed his concerns in the senate on Thursday and said, “It’s a clear warning for the government. It is not possible to continue with the discussion on the president’s address to parliament while ignoring frequent power outages. The government must listen to what people... Read more

Hindus have strongly objected to Hindu deities being reportedly referred to as "false idols" on the opening day of the General Assembly of Church of Scotland on May 19 in Edinburgh (United Kingdom).
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that about one billion Hindus worldwide worshipped their deities almost on a daily basis and labeling them as “false” was highly hurting their feelings.
Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, asked apology from Church of Scotland for this inappropriate language as these deities were highly revered in Hinduism. Hinduism was the oldest and third largest religion of the world with a rich philosophical thought and it should not be taken lightly. Symbols of any faith, larger or smaller, should not be mishandled, Zed stated.

Brazilian-born Yan Gomes Gets Two Hits to Make Successful Major League Debut
As has been the case for many seasons the Toronto Blue Jays realize that for the team to even have a sniff at the playoffs it will have to play well and pick up important wins against other teams in a tough American League East division.
After snapping a seven game losing streak to division opponents in Wednesday’s 8-1 against the New York Yankees, the Blue Jays (21-18) completed the sweep of a mini two-game with a 4-1 win at Rogers Centre.
Once again the long ball played a big part in the win as both Jose Bautista and J.P. Arencibia smacked two-run homeruns giving starting pitcher Drew Hutchison (3-1) more than enough offence to secure his third win in six... Read more

“I am very pleased with the overall effort by the team today,” said head coach Fabian McKenzie. “We challenged the team on a few key areas and they did exactly what we asked them to. It was a much better team performance tonight. "
Wumi Agunbiade (Pickering, ON) led the Canadian team in scoring with 14 points in the contest.

I'm not sure how many of you remember the Lombard Challenge from 1996, but those of you who do will remember it as the U-15 cricket world cup that was held in England during the summer of 96. I was in Pakistan for my summer holidays at the time when the tournament was being played and I remember watching all the games Live on Star Sports. Three Arkansas Razorback football players who have been charged with stealing from fellow students are out of jail after being arrested. Marquel Wade, Andrew Peterson and Maudrecus Humphrey all posted bond on Sunday. One has to wonder about the culture on this team where members, allegedly, have stolen from fellow classmates.
Presumably these are Division I scholarship athletes who enjoy the finical support of the school directly and the state taxpayers indirectly. If these charges are true (and the initial reports are compelling), the coaching staff needs to look at who they are recruiting and how they ended up with a group that preys upon fellow students, almost all of whom have worked and paid for their spot on campus. The temerity to take cash and property from other students as... Read more

Plenty of time for recovery, a tactical retreat- followed by more nuanced and diplomatic language- but make no mistake Mulcair is BLOWING it on the "dutch disease" file. My friend BCL delivers the latest poll, which shows the NDP riding high, eclipsing the Conservatives, even leading amongst the key 60 plus demographic, impressive stuff. However, I take the longer view on this current debate, within that an opinion that this issue is quickly morphing into questions of confederation and national unity, both pure political death in the final analysis.
{ads1}The NDP are handling this issue badly, as some have said, instead of clarifying, Mulcair is "doubling down", his rhetoric simply betrays any sense of PM in waiting. To raise these questions so early in his tenure as Leader of the Opposition, Mulcair... Read more

PM Stephen Harper admits the high risk involved in NATO training mission after a Canadian soldier passed away on Saturday. Master Corporal Byron Greff along with 16 others part of the NATO training mission were reported dead in a suicide bomb attack in Kabul.
Greff is the first Canadian soldier who died in Afghanistan after the end of military operations in July. PM Harper offered his condolences to Greff’s loved ones.
He said: “I’ve always been clear there are still risks involved in this mission. Any mission in Afghanistan involves significant risk. … Any presence in Afghanistan, as I know from my own travel there, is fraught with risk, so there will remain risk to our defence personnel.”
On the other hand, skeptics believe PM Harper calculatedly understated the risk involved in the... Read more

Last weekend was so much fun, you guys! As some of you already know…I’ll be a wifey soon. And to celebrate the upcoming merriment, my dear friends threw me not one…but two bachelorette parties!
First, my lovely bridesmaid Aleyda organized a yummy brunch at MoRoCo, followed by manis/pedis at the nearby salon. It was a perfect afternoon of relaxation and pampering. I had an amazing time catching up with friends, sipping lattes, and opening gifts, which I was hoping would be naughty, but were very nice instead. My brunch attire matched the theme, and I wore a white peplum dress from H&M, accessorized with neon details, and my new fave purse from Tory Burch’s new Yorkdale outpost (which is a must visit!).
{ads1}At night, however, things got decidedly less classy. My amazing blogger friends Richard and Marc organized and threw me an unforgettable... Read more

Building a credit history important to newcomers
Most newcomers to Canada (79 per cent) feel it’s important to start building credit history quickly and three-in-four (75 per cent) believe that expert advice is important when it comes to lending or borrowing money, according to an RBC poll.
“Building a new life in a new country is no small feat. Newcomers are faced with a myriad of tasks and decisions to ensure their future success,” said Paul Sy, director, Multicultural Markets, RBC. “Among these are important financial decisions and professional advice can be critical to overcoming obstacles and challenges in this area. That’s why speaking to a financial advisor, someone who understands the challenges and can provide solutions, is integral to helping newcomers build their lives in Canada.”

Update 115am CDT 4/23/2012: Per the Japanese.. last time this sort of thing occurred was about 300 years ago: http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/features/science/T120420005829.htm
Quote the article:
"Magnetic field polarity at the solar poles will reverse and become quadrupolar in May, meaning positive fields will emerge in the North and South poles and negative fields will emerge on the equator, according to the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan and other institutes. When a similar phenomenon occurred about 300 years ago, the Earth's average temperature fell slightly. "
Per the Japanese Hinode team (pronounced hee-no-day) -- in about one months time -- (may 2012) the suns north pole will reach a magnetic point of "zero"and then form into MULTIPLE positive poles --- creating TWO solar north poles, and TWO corresponding south poles .. also.. this is happening a... I’m standing on the crest of Mycenae’s acropolis hill looking out over the ruined ramparts of the ancient citadel. It’s easy to evoke those long-past times and I let my imagination run wild recalling Homer’s tales and the tragedies of the dramatists, Aeschylus and Euripides. The series of treacheries, improper marriages and acts of vengeance that took place in Mycenae were characteristic of the dynasty and supplied the basis for the Classical dramas that told the stories of what might have happened there in the 16thcentury BC. The blind poet, Homer, wrote about Mycenae in The Iliad and although some of his accounts may have been fictional, recent finds prove that many of his details regarding Myceanean traditions and customs were correct.

Cast: Leonardo Dicaprio, Naomi Watts, Judi Dench, Armie Hammer and Josh Lucas
Director: Clint Eastwood
Producer: Clint Eastwood, Brian Grazer and Robert Lorenz
THE FILM
Leonardo Dicaprio stars as J. Edgar in this biopic based on the life and times of J. Edgar Hoover who served as the head of the FBI for nearly 50 years. Directed by actor-director Clint Eastwood, J. Edgar is shot mostly in flashbacks as an old Dicaprio narrates his memoirs to a journalist. Tracing back in time when the FBI was newly formed, the film talks about how Edgar fixated on Communists, anarchists and any other revolutionary taking action against the U.S. government. The film also depicts how he single handedly built the agency's reputation, taking harsh decisions like who gets hired and fired. In... Read more

EXPECTATIONS
There isn't much known about the film Yeh Khula Aasmaan expect for the fact that it is about a boy who is facing challenges in his life during his growing up years. Since the film has an offbeat theme, one expects the same from the music as well. The film marks the comeback of composer duo of Anand-Milind but one does wonder what's the kind of soundtrack they would have in the offing here. Ravi Chopra is the lyricist.
