IIFA 2011 in Toronto: Somebody has to say it! The IIFA awards show was pure rubbish. 90 minutes late in starting, 5-6 performances by the stars who ended up participating (barely one per excruciating hour), sub-standard and disrespectful ‘comedy’ acts, finished at 2:30 when the TTC was no longer operating after SRK’s repulsive grand finale. $150 plus taxi fare wasted. For those who could not get a ticket to this much hyped event, consider yourself lucky. Dollar DVD of the award show is already available. No wonder the Bachhans and other superstars boycotted. IIFA Awards 2011! Toronto fans feel cheated

I wish to give you my notions on the supposedly grand IIFA awards that just happened last weekend.
All over the social media including the page of a prominent South Asian website, many South Asians are criticizing the actual awards ceremony. Even though the stage was fascinating and the production fabulous, the show itself was a big disappointment filled with corny jokes and poor performances with panting lead dancers, uncomfortable pauses of silence, sub-grade sound quality, etc. The show was so pathetic that the hosts had to actually ask people for standing ovations! Standing ovations should come impromptu, when the performers say or do something that strikes a chord with the audience. Also, not enough big time stars showed up. Preity Zinta, Hritik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and a host of others were no shows.
Mandore, Rajasthan, 769 AD: Ravindra-Raj, the evil sorcerer-king, devises a deadly secret ritual, where he and his seven queens will burn on his pyre, and he will rise again with the powers of Ravana, demon-king of the epic Ramayana. But things go wrong when one queen, the beautiful, spirited Darya, escapes with the help of Aram Dhoop, the court poet. Jodhpur, Rajasthan, 2010: At the site of ancient Mandore, teenagers Vikram, Amanjit, Deepika and Rasita meet and realise that the deathless king and his ghostly brides are hunting them down. As vicious forces from the past come alive, they need to unlock truths that have been hidden for centuries, and fight an ancient battle …one more time

Bring the British North America Act back to Canada for display
BringBackTheAct.ca is national, grassroots movement launched by a group of Canadians from all walks of life. It is asking Canadians to support a petition to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the British government to return to Canada the British North America Act – Canada’s *original* Constitution – in time for its 150th anniversary celebrations in Charlottetown 2014, and Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017.
The campaign is the brainchild of Lori Abittan, President and CEO of Multimedia Nova Corporation. Her 52-week Canadian civic literacy/history series The Canadian Experience (http://www.cdnexperience.ca) now running in over 70 multicultural publications (including the Oye Times!), was the inspiration to launch BringBackTheAct.ca to invite all Canadians to help gain access to the basic documents which are the foundation of our nationhood. To enable such historical documents to be entrusted to the Canadian Government and displayed for all Canadians to see will represent the last step Canada takes to finally ‘repatriate’ our Constitution.
