ROM presents SOLODANCE: Perspectives from South India and Beyond on June 4 & 5. Everyone is encouraged at attend this two-day dance symposium focusing on the South Indian solo dance form Bharatnatayam. 

Ragamala: Garland of Melodies is ROM’s newest exhibit exploring art from India featuring new acquisitions as well as artifacts from the vaults.

Brand & Land is running an event on May 28 to help people learn how to interview, gain the confidence to answer those tricky questions and learn how to position yourself for success. This event will also provide an amazing opportunity for recent grads, those who have been laid off and/or people thinking of a new career an opportunity to network and learn more about their field or where they want to be. The evening will also include an amazing guest DJ and there will be appetizers provided as well… Think of it as Facebook meets LinkedIn – a relaxed, no pressure, and stress free atmosphere to learn how to brand yourself and become armed with the skills to get that job..

  May 29 :: Naya Raasta :: South Asian Divorced or Separated Support Group

Naya Raasta :: New Road We offer help to men and women going through divorce/separation, by inviting them to attend an open discussion forum. This forum is primarily to share your experiences and converse with others in similar situations, or simply to listen. The environment is completely supportive of everyone’s individual needs and emotions. Please be aware that this is a support group and not a dating club for divorced/separated individuals.

We encourage anyone who is either on the verge of divorce or separation, or even thinking about it, to please come and meet others who have faced the same tough decisions. New members welcomed.

  June 4 & 5 :: SOLODANCE: Perspectives from South India and Beyond

The Friends of South Asia at the Royal Ontario Museum, in collaboration with inDance, present a special two-day dance symposium focusing on the South Indian solo dance form Bharatnatayam. This gathering of eminent scholars and international dance artists from around the world will examine and celebrate the evolution of South Indian dance with live performances and lively round table discussions on topics ranging from the history of courtesan dance in South India and transformations of solo dance in the twentieth century to issues of identity, nationhood and selfhood in contemporary solo dance. Short performances will range from solo works by leading performer Anita Ratnam of Chennai to neo-Baroque dance by Patricia Beaman of New York University. A roundtable on the afternoon of June 5 will feature Canadian solo dance legends Peggy Baker and Denise Fujiwara in conversation with Leela Samson, Swapnasundari and Anita Ratnam from India.

  Till Nov 28 :: Ragamala: Garland of Melodies

Opening during South Asian Heritage Month in Ontario, the ROM’s newest exhibit exploring art from India features new acquisitions as well as artifacts from the vaults. This exhibit of 30 objects in a 400 square foot case explores themes associated with Ragamala painting, a genre of South Asian miniature painting that flourished during the 16th -19th centuries. Originating in western India, Ragamala painting came out of artistic workshops of the Rajasthani kingdoms from where they spread southward to the Deccan and later northward to the Pahari region (now in the state of Punjab).
