Yes, that is the diamond I seek.

Life keeps unfolding a path, a path for each of us to travel as we journey through life. This is how I can describe my presence here in Belgium, in Antwerp, the city of diamonds. I was amazed to see the jewellery stores, and so many of them lining the central train station in Antwerp. Diamonds glittering in their windows.

I am in search of the diamond that is in each heart, of each being. Nadine, looks at me as we walk down the street and says, "you must have some energy, people in Belgium don’t smile at strangers"…I look at her and think, yes, that is the diamond I seek.

In an earlier conversation we were discussing, how people are so lonely here. One thought was that it could be attributed to the climate. When its cold, and windy, and the rain and snow falls, people withdraw, inwards, into their souls, closing the window to their heart along with the windows of their home. A psychologist from Mexico had a different take. She compared the values of her home country, where she says that family and friends come first, even taking priority over work. Where as in North America and Europe, work comes first. Jobs end, careers change, and in the end many are left alone with their emotions, and alone is okay, loneliness and the aloneness of the heart causes isolation and sadness.

We walk into an art gallery, the artist invites us in and comments in Flemish to my friend that he senses an energy from me which exudes calmness, we talk about yoga and meditation and he says he is very stressed and needs some yoga and meditation. Tomorrow he will join us for a yoga session, and I find yet another diamond.

Tu Eres Mi Otro Yo – (You Are My Other Self). A Mayan concept of unity, we learn to be ourselves through our relationships with others.
