Squares and patches were never more stylish than now.

Be it in the form of jackets, pants, shirts or even dresses, checks are the in thing this season, with men and women alike flaunting them in casual and formal wear.

Designer Manish Malhotra, who has been sported wearing the squares himself on many an occasion off late, says that the check print is en vogue in a “major way.” So much so, that he had an entire line inspired by checks in the recently concluded fashion week. “Not just in India, checks are huge in USA and London too right now. And not just on clothes, checks look chic on scarves and bags as well. Why, I even put checks on borders of sarees, and it looks stylish,” says Manish.

Designer Rocky S affirms that checks were the style statement of last season on international fashion circuits, and now, Indian designers are following up the trend here this summer. “Checks make for smart clothing, lending a Scottish feel to an attire. But one should be careful when donning checkered attire, it shouldn’t be too bold and is best matched with a neutral or plain top or bottom. Checkered outfits should be subtly styled,” warns Rocky S. Designer Babita Malkani is all for the checkered look too, which she noticed was quite popular on the fashion week ramp. “A short checkered dress or skirt with chappals looks cool and casual for the summer. Also, for those who want to experiment a bit, mix ‘n’ match your checks with a floral print or polka dots,” suggests Babita.

So whether it’s on your shirt or on your skirt, on your bag or on your scarf, if you want to be ‘check’ed out this summer, get those squares out of your geometry text books and into your wardrobe!
