With the monsoons just in the wings, the fashion scene is hotting up with women going in for some really eye-catching patterns.

When at a party, everyone looks out for which interesting pattern would greet them with the entry of the next guest. As the competition to don the most crazy pattern gets tougher, it seems it’s curtains for subtle prints.

Just a couple of months ago, solid greens and blues dominated the red carpet at the awards functions, but ramp shows a few days ago saw guests sport polka dots and marble-effect patterns.

Be it our fashion queen Malaika Arora-Khan or yummy-mummy Karisma Kapur, they are all sporting the ‘bold-and beautiful’ look. “These patterns follow a seasonal cycle. Bold patterns always follow a season of solids and then it goes on to smaller prints, which fade out to make way for solids again,” says fashion designer Harita Kapur.

Explaining which body types should jump onto this in-the-face-pattern bandwagon, designer Vikrant Mehta, says, “Petite girls should avoid big patterns, while those who have broad hips should also avoid it, as they will look fuller. But women with an average body type can go all out and have fun with these patterns. It’s like they are created just for them.”

Next time you go shopping and see bold prints which you deem fit just for curtains, think again, as they may end up being just the right drape for you!
