For red carpet appearances, celebs wear top-of-the-line custom couture, so understandably, you’d think that the hair and makeup would follow suit — all Givenchy, Dior, Tom Ford, etc. But, red carpet beauty often comes with a mix of highs and lows, as was the case at this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards.
Yara Shahidi wore an elegant Tory Burch pantsuit, with a $4 nail polish. Zendaya looked every bit a supermodel in a dark brown August Getty Atelier gown, while her slicked back hairstyle cost less than $20 in total products. There were drugstore finds all over the carpet, you just have to know where to look.
Click ahead to check out the night’s best beauty looks, and the bargain beauty products that made them happen.
Alisha Boe

Boe got her enviable glow from Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter in Molten Gold, which makeup artist Beau Nelson tapped onto the inner corners of her eyes, brow bone, nose, and cheekbones.

The soft golds and browns on her eyes came courtesy of the buzzy Maybelline Lemonade Craze Palette. Nelson tapped the shades Citrus and Sugar Coated onto her lids to create a warm base, then swept Sweat Tea and Old Fashion into her crease for definition.

He finished by mixing two shades of Maybelline New York SuperStay Matte Ink Un-Nude lipstick: Amazonian and Seductress. He swept them on with a lip brush and highlighted her cupid’s bow as the final touch.

Celebrity manicurist Steph Stone chose a sheer tan shade to complement her client’s all-black ensemble. “Camila’s sheer black dress with a lace bodice came off as very edgy, so we wanted to choose a shade that softened her overall look,” sshe said. “Wild Nud e gave her nails the perfect wash of light tan.”

For Camila’s hair, celebrity hairstylist David Stanwell, created a loose, half-up bun. “What’s great about this style is the versatility of looks from different angles,” explained Stanwell. “In the front, it’s clean and off the neckline, yet in the back you still have movement to give that bohemian vibe that we were after.”
Stanwell got the texture he was looking for by prepping her wet hair with John Frieda Frizz Ease Curl Reviver Mousse. He then raked a smoothing serum through her hair before blow drying it with a round brush.

To secure the top half of her hair into a bun without frizz or flyaways, Stanwell rubbed a bit of John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Touch Up Crème between his fingers while twisting.
