We’ve been gushing over the high-impact red lips from the fall runways since February — so dramatic they’re basically an accessory in their own right. While it’d be easy to pull a page out of the Chanel handbook and pair the painted puckers with black or white looks, we’d much rather take this season’s key catwalk trend for a whirl. Enter: Bold red lips with equally bold hues.

From jewel tones to rich autumnal shades, designers were all about pairing the little red lip with a whole lotta color for a very on-trend, colorblocked theme. Follow their lead, please, but be sure to avoid any missteps with our mini-guide. Ahead, eight standout rouge lipsticks matched with eight runway outfits…here’s to stopping traffic.

For a sunny pop of color…try canary

For those never-say-die summer-lovers out there, you can take your favorite sunny yellow shade into fall. Pair it with a bright, coral-colored red for a knockout pow of a pout.

Giorgio Armani Beauty Rouge D’Armani Sheer in 301, $30, available at Neiman Marcus.

For vintage flair…try cerulean

Something about the combination of vibrant blue and scarlet hues practically screams ’40s screen siren to us. If scouring vintage shops and thrift stores is your thing, try this dynamic duo for a retro look that’s sophisticated and sultry.

Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick in Raven, $30, available at Sephora.

For the consummate girly-girl…try muted pink

This little-girl shade gets all grown-up when matched with a vampy vermilion pout. We’d choose a pink that’s more dusty rose rather than pastel Pepto, coupled with a raspberry lippie.

Chantecaille Hydra Chic Lipstick in Willow, $34, available at Nordstrom.

For a trendy take…try teal

Fall’s red lip is a head-turning clash of color against a jewel tone like teal — but inexplicably, it works. If you’ve got confidence in spades and don’t mind the attention, make a statement by pairing your pout with this unexpected hue.

Sunday Riley Modern Lip Color in Sunday, $32, available at DermStore.

For the glamour girl…try shining gold

Gilt gets even more glam when paired with a fire-engine red. Choose a gold with extra sparkle to really bring out the sophistication and the wow factor of this glitzy shade.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color in Old Hollywood, $23, available at Neiman Marcus.

For the sartorially cautious…try maroon

If you’re questioning which shade to pair with your crimson lip and aren’t up for a mish-mash of color, you can’t go wrong with one that’s (pretty) near to red on the color wheel. We like a chic raspberry or maroon hue paired with a darker, classical crimson.

NARS Semi Matte Lipstick in Transeurope Express, $24, available at NARS.

To go full-on fall…try burnt orange

Be festive (not in a cheesy way) in a chic shade of autumnal orange. A red lipstick with warm undertones will complement this color to a T.

Lancôme Rouge In Love High Potency Lipcolor in Rouge Valentine, $25, available at Lancôme.

For the classic beauty…try sapphire

Choose a shade so blue it could pass as a dead ringer for Kate Middleton’s rock, then match it with a dark, almost mahogany, red lip. Just because you’re not into bright, look-at-me hues, doesn’t mean you can’t still turn heads.

Beauty Is Life Lipstick in Bechee, $28, available at Barneys.
