If there’s one day of the year when your gluten-free, no-wheat, green-juice-a-day, macrobiotic-on-Sunday, sugar-free, fat-free, fun-free diet should take a break, it’s tomorrow. Celebrating family and food, Thanksgiving is one of our personal favorite holidays, not only because it’s a feel-good, bittersweet time of reflection, but also because it’s an opportunity to stuff our faces.

Gorging and Thanksgiving go hand in hand, but oftentimes, the meal itself also can be a dressy occasion. Don’t torture yourself deciding between undoing your zipper for a little more breathing room and going after another scoop of potatoes — tomorrow, youcan have your cake (and pie and cranberry sauce) and eat it too. Ahead, eight clever ways (spanning the spectrum of attractiveness and expandability) to help you nurture a happy, healthy food baby without any weird relatives asking whether you’re actually pregnant.

1

A Full, High-Waisted Skirt — The obvious dressy-but-not-constricting choice is a high-waisted skirt with a flared skirt. Go for a version that’s got a little stretch at the waist so it’ll expand as you do.

Orla Kiely Sparkle Skirt, $360, available at Orla Kiely.

2

A Loose Peplum — As long as the body of the dress isn’t too tight, a peplum can be just the ticket for Thanksgiving. The flared skirt helps hide any belly bulge, but you’ll still look prim and put-together at the dinner table.

3

Oversized Sweater With A Mid-Rise Trouser — Mid-rise trousers are your safest bet when it comes to pants (anything too low encourages spillage and anything too high will constrict you). Also, look for pants with a little elasticity. If you really need to start unbuttoning, an oversized sweater will help hide your undone waist. Just remember to re-do it before you stand up!

Uniqlo Lambswool Sweater, $19.90, available at Uniqlo;Etro Squared Trouser, $558.92, available at Farfetch

4

Twisted-Waist Dresses — A dress with some center ruching, tucking, and folding helps disguise a full stomach. For extra camouflage, choose a dress in a busy print.

5

Low-Rise Leggings — Get away with wearing leggings at the dinner table by choosing a tailored, thick pair with special detailing (like a leather tuxedo stripe!). A longer-length button down and a chic, snuggly cardigan will keep the comfort factor extra-high.

6

Fashion Sweats — Lucky for you, fashion-forward sweatpants are still acceptable…as long as you take care to dress up the rest of your outfit. Make sure you’re adding on high heels and a chic blazer, not your college sweatshirt.

7

Empire-Waist Dresses — A empire-waist dress might not be the trendiest thing in your closet, but in a pinch, it’ll do. Bring the silhouette into 2012 by wearing it with gold cuffs and ankle boots.

Bamboo by United Bamboo Pilgrim Dress, $340, available at La Garconne.

8

Caftans — Announce your Turkey Day plans to everyone at dinner by showing up in a caftan. Roomy, extra-fabulous, and absolutely ridiculous, a caftan is the sort of thing that will make you winThanksgiving. And seriously, if you end up actually going for it, send us a pic — we’ll publish it!
