Whether you want a veiled beanie to keep you warm en route, a hair accent for your tresses, or granny-chic bling for your collarbone, get ready to wow the crowd. Only be forewarned: These touches are so cute, custom-order requests just might start coming in.
Bejeweled sweater clip on Natasha Ivankovitser
Sometimes, we like to turn to the past (a.k.a. our beloved grandmothers) for some accessory inspiration. Wear this piece as a sweater closure to keep that cardi on all night or as some collar zing, as we did here. The best part? For under $10, you have some unique party-worthy bling that’s sure to shine.
You’ll need:
Two jump rings
Clip on earrings (we got ours from Forever21 for $4.80)
Two chains
Needle-nose pliers
Clippers
Step 1: Open a jump ring slightly with the pliers. Slip the ends of both chains through the ring.
Step 2: Slip the ring and chains through the back of the earring and close the ends of the ring together so all are enclosed.
Step 3: Measure how long you want your chains, and allow slack for the bottom chain.
Step 4: Snip both the chains with your clippers and repeat steps one to three with the second side.
Veiled beanie on Chloe Daley
This time of year, it’s unthinkable to venture outdoors without a head covering. But day in, day out, it’s easy to get sick of the old topper, so we took inspiration from the birdcage beanies in the Jil Sander fall collection. Prepare to amp up your daily drama factor and turn a few heads!
You’ll need:
Beanie
Veil
Needle and thread
Scissors
Sparkly pin
Step 1: Lay the veil over the beanie allowing a few inches above the brim and a few below. Make sure your piece of veil is about half a yard long.
Step 2: Cut the veil as evenly as possible.
Step 3: Put the beanie on and hold the veil over your face, to gauge how tight you’ll want it to be. Carefully take it off still holding the veil in the back.
Step 4: Take the two ends of veil and tie a knot to the place you measured.
Step 5: Trim the ends if they are too long and tuck them behind the knot. Take a sparkly pin to secure it.
Step 6: Take your needle and thread and secure the veil to the beanie at the top of each side.
Ombré glitter barrette on Annie Georgia Greenberg
We can think of few things better than glitter in your hair during this season of sparkle and shine. One way to take it up a notch? Ombré. You’ll want more than one, trust.
You’ll need:
Glitter in various colors
Flat barrette
Glue
Paint brush
Painting surface
Mod Podge (optional)
Step 1: Pour out the glitter creating four piles (depending on your color scheme). Start with the lightest color and then create consecutive piles so they appear from light to dark.
Step 2: Pour your glue onto the plate and lightly paint a section of the barrette.
Step 3: Begin with the lightest color and dust the glitter onto the end of the barrette, tapping lightly to secure.
Step 4: Gradually spread the other colors across the barrette, painting more glue on as necessary. If the color lines are too drastic, mix more glitter to create an in-between shade.
Step 5: After covering the whole barrette, let it dry. Give it a little shake to remove loose glitter and then add more glue and retouch any bare spots.
Step 6: Want glitter a fallin’ through your tresses all night long? You’re set to go! Otherwise, keep all the sparkle in place and paint a light coat of Mod Podge over the barrette for a clear cover.
