Potato is the world’s fourth largest food crop. Potatoes are regarded as the perfect recipe for obese people.  There are a lot of prejudices against the poor potatoes. One of myths about potato is that they are simply fattening. Therefore, many people who are conscious about their health avoid consuming potatoes in their meal. Actually, it is just a myth.

Potatoes themselves are not fattening. This is a misconception that potatoes make you fat. They are generally regarded as the typical weight-gain food, on contrary when they are prepared in a healthy way; they are highly nutritious vegetable with abundant health benefits. The consumption of potatoes can be enjoyable if taken in moderate quantities. Method of cooking has to be taken into consideration to avoid weight gain.

One of most common myths about potatoes is that they should be avoided because potatoes are richest source of carbohydrates which are evil because they contribute to weight gain. This is false assumption about potatoes. Carbohydrates do not cause obesity, weight gain, blood pressure, diabetes and heart diseases. Carbohydrates are the prime fuel source which is the basic requirement and the main source of energy for body. 

Potatoes are a very popular food throughout the world and consumed frequently in several forms such as fried, boiled, bake or as an ingredient in many dishes. Fattening only depends upon how you cook potatoes. Eating potatoes should be prepared in healthy ways like baked, mashed, boiled, roasted, steamed or stewed. It will not add to your weight gain. However, if you make dishes of potatoes by teeming it up with cream, cheese, additional topping of mayonnaise, butter and heavy dressing or serve them as French fries, then potatoes will surely contribute to weight gain. 

One of the myths associated with potatoes is that one should eat potatoes only once in a month.

It’s not true.

Moderate amount that is recommended by experts is one medium sized potato a day. Of course, this depends upon your overall diet, nutrition and kind of food intake.

Eating potatoes peel is also very nutritious for you. Since potatoes are a good source of carbohydrates and full of fibers when eaten with peel, they make you feel full. Potato plus peel is recommended to be eaten when one is looking for a weight loss diet within a balanced main meal. Skinned potatoes, on the other hand, are rich in fiber – a weight-friendly ingredient that makes stay in shape. So you must eat a potato once a day.

You no longer need to avoid potatoes and miss out on its delicious taste. Now when you now, potatoes do no harm to your weight, you can gorge this luscious vegetables and add taste and spice in your daily meals.

Potatoes are a good source of carbohydrates, proteins, potassium, vitamin C, other essential nutrients and minerals that are very necessary for your health. Try a baked, boiled, roasted and steamed potato instead of frying or cooking in high fat oil. Cook potatoes along with their skin and your dish will be rich in fiber, potassium, vitamin C and iron and surely contribute to weight lose.
