Gum soreness is a dental disease that affects the teeth, gums or other tissues and parts of the mouth. Gum sores may be felt in only a small part of a gum or at the gum line. Redness, swelling, pain, sores, ulcers or bleeding are the signs of gum sores. These symptoms may be constant or variable and during eating and drinking it can worsen. Smoking, inadequate oral care and consuming a large amount of hard food contribute to gum sores.
Gum sores cause serious problems and can also affect one’s ability to chew, smile or even speak properly. Gum sores are caused by inflammation or infection of the gums as a result of poor oral hygiene. The main cause of gum sores is the infection of gums, skin and bone tissue. Vitamin deficiency like scurvy and iron deficiency is also associated with symptoms that affect the gums. Inflammation due to plaque on teeth is also responsible of gum sores. Duration of gum sores varies, depending on its causes.
If the pain of gum continues gum sores can be severe. Severe forms of gum sores are periodontitis and gingivitis. Gingivitis is a common periodonatal disease. It is caused by building up of plaque on the teeth. If plaque continuous to accumulate and is not taken care of then bacteria begin to grow and cause the gingvitis infection.
Periodontitis also affects gums. It is caused when gingvitis is not treated. As a result, plaque spreads underneath the gums. In plaque, bacteria that give birth to toxins destroy gums. The teeth have spaces between them and are separated from the gums. If it is not treated, teeth become useless and have to be taken out.
Redness and swelling in gums, tender gums, separation of teeth from gums, persistent bad breath, bad taste in mouth, loose teeth, formation of spaces between teeth, change in the way teeth fit together, and bleeding from gums during and after brushing. You must consult a dentist even if you do not feel pain in gums.
It is necessary to combat the gum sores early. Gum diseases can be prevented by taking proper care of teeth. Proper brushing and flossing can prevent the gum sores. Good oral hygiene prevents sum sores. One must seek dental care and visit regularly to the dentists to remain healthy. Whenever you brush, make sure that you are brushing in a right manner because wrong brushing can damage gums; as gums are made from delicate tissues.
People use back and forth motion while brushing and this motion can actually irritate and damage the gums, make them sore and more likely to bleed and recede. So the right method of brushing is circular motion. One must gently use circular motion to clean the teeth and gums. Eating healthy food and drinking plenty of water also strengthen the teeth and prevents gum sores.
