The series is now at 2-1, after New Zealand stood victorised in their first ODI of the tour over the West Indies (an 88-run win in the 3rd match). This win has kept their hopes for the remaining games alive. The 4th ODI is scheduled to be played at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts today on July 14, can be a crucial potential turning point in the series for both teams.
Having fielded first in the third ODI, at the same ground, and seen his batsmen cave in chasing a gettable 250, Darren Sammy chose to bat on a less grassy pitch compared to the previous game. West Indies brought in Tino Best for Ravi Rampaul, and Devon Thomas replaced Denesh Ramdin, given a break to get married. The probable West Indies team include: Chris Gayle, Johnson Charles, Dwayne Smith, Marlon Samuels, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Devon Thomas (wk), Darren Sammy (capt), Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Tino Best.
New Zealand, trailing 1-2, were boosted by the return of their regular captain Ross Taylor, who claimed to recover enough from his shoulder injury to play today, after missing the second Twenty20 and the first three ODIs. Brendon McCullum, who had joined the team on the eve of the third ODI, was also included, as was Doug Bracewell, having recovered from a back strain. Daniel Flynn and Kyle Mills were the ones to be left out, and BJ Watling was out with a quad strain. The squad for New Zealand include: Rob Nicol, Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor (capt), Tom Latham (wk), Jacob Oram, Nathan McCullum, Tim Southee, Doug Bracewell, Trent Boult.
The match will start after a fifteen minutes delay as overnight and early morning rain soaked the outfield.
