On Friday July 20, 2012 stage 18 sees the start of the long trail north, as the riders get ready to ride down the streets of Paris in hunt of the top status in this competition. The first third of the day is flat but the middle segment is specifically lumpy.
Stage 18 has a rolling track with a total 337m high point over a distance of 222.5km that will challenge even the most capable climbers, it schedule from Blagnac to Brive-la-Gaillarde.
The racers point their bikes towards north for a 215 km straight shot from Blagnac to Brive-la-Gaillarde before being transferred practically towards the rest of the way. The flat plain will be to the benefit of the sprinters here, as everyone looking for a lead in this stage that could be huge with so few stages remaining the riders.
Friday July 20 will see the riders travel one of the longest stages in the entire Tour. Stage 18 stretches for 215 km. That lengthy of a stage leaves plenty of opportunity for lead contenders. This long stage will be very tiring and it’s also the last chance to stand out for many contestants.
