Australia and Sri Lanka will face each other today in the first Test of the three-match series at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart, with both the sides excited to gain some early momentum in international cricket.
Australian team has the home advantage but the recent 309-runs defeat at the hands of South Africans in their last test match has created disappointment in the team. It has also increased their distance from No.1 spot. Now, they have the chance to get their lost confidence back in them by winning this match and also pave their way to the top rank in Test matches. Phil Hughes will have to try filling in the gap left by Ricky Ponting. Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey showed great form against South Africa and will hope to continue the pace. Australian bowling attack look settled with the likes of Ben Hilfenhaus and Peter Siddle. After adding Nathan Lyon to the mix, bowling attack gets more strength. The probable Australian squad will include: Michael Clarke (captain), Ed Cowan, David Warner, Phil Hughes, Shane Watson, Mike Hussey, Matthew Wade, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc, Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus.
Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene has a chance to make history in Hobart in his last series as captain by to registering their first win on Aussies’ shores. He has never tasted victory Down Under, not in a single game as player or skipper. Sri Lanka have never won a Test in Australia, and in all the games they’ve contested overall, Sri Lanka have won only once, all the way back in 1999 in Kandy. During their last visit to Aussie shores, they lost their final game in Hobart by 96 runs. The likely Sri Lankan lineup will include: Tillakaratne Dilshan, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Thilan Samaraweera, Angelo Mathews, Prasanna Jayawardene (wk), Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Shaminda Eranga, Chanaka Welegedara.
