Indian women cricket team is ready to open their World Cup 2013 campaign against the West Indian side in Group A clash on Thursday at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
West Indian skipper, Merrisa Aguilleira does know the toughness of group match but is also confident of her team to be prepared for the opening clash in India. Aguilleira's women lost their warm-up match against Australia on Monday by 135 runs, are in a group featuring defending champions England, hosts India and Sri Lanka. Fair improvement has been witnessed in the Caribbean side since World Cup 2009, where they finished fifth. They have played 38 ODIs since the last world cup. The West Indian team qualified for the 2013 event after winning the World Cup Qualifier in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2011. They are yet to win an ICC Global event, but have been reaching semi-final stages of competitions. The likely West Indian lineup will include: MR Aguilleira (WK & C), SA Campbelle, SF Daley, DJS Dottin, Kycia A Knight, Kyshona A Knight, NY McLean, A Mohammed, SL Munroe, JB Nero, JW Ogle-Thomas, SL Quintyne, SC Selman, TD Smartt, SR Taylor.
India will enter the tenth Women's World Cup in local conditions. However, Captain Mithali Raj is not sure of getting some advantage of being hosts in the event. India had finished third in the 2009 world cup and now they will open this event under lights. India have played just 26 ODIs since 2009 event and their previous ODI was as far back as July 2012. Still they are confident of their preparations with their performance in the warm up matches. India lost the ODI series 2-1 during their Caribbean tour at 2012 start. Indians faced trouble in playing against experienced offspinner Anisa Mohammed, who is expected to play a key role in this match as well. The probable Indian squad will include: M Raj (C), E Bishat, J Goswami, KV Jain, MDT Kamini, H Kaur, R Malhotra, MR Meshram, S Naik (WK), N Niranjana, RK Parwin,PG Raut, A Sharma, S Sharma, G Sultana.
