Chennai Super Kings will start their IPL 2014 campaign with a match against Kings XI Punjab at Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Chennai is the most consistent side in the history of Indian premiere League and they have successfully retained their core and powerful unit. But off-the-field controversies may affect their performance in grounds. They would be banking on the power hitting of newly recruited Dwayne Smith – to get them off to a good start throughout the tournament. He may be partnered either by the New Zealand Brendon McCullum or South African Faf du Plessis. With the likes of Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo in the middle-order, the Chennai batting is very formidable. The likely CSK line-up will include: Dwayne Smith, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni (c&wk), Dwayne Bravo, Mithun Manhas, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Samuel Badree, Mohit Sharma, Ashish Nehra.

On the other hand, Punjab have match-winners in their ranks and will be aiming to go all the way in the seventh IPL season. Their squad comprise of the players with the propensity to win games on their own. The batting department looks strong with the likes of Virender Sehwag, David Miller, George Bailey, Shaun Marsh and Glenn Maxwell. Cheteshwar Pujara is also there to strengthen the line-up with the biggest acquisitions of left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Johnson – one of the deadliest fast bowlers in contemporary cricket. The probable KXIP squad will include: Virender Sehwag, Mandeep Singh/Cheteshwar Pujara, Shaun Marsh/Glenn Maxwell, David Miller, Geroge Bailey (c), Gurkeerat Singh Mann (wk), Manan Vohra, Mitchell Johnson, Murali Kartik, Parvinder Awana, Lakshmipathy Balaji.
