On opening day of the second test match, Ajinkya’s Rahane’s timely hundred saved India from getting tattered against England, taking them to a respectable 290 for 9 after James Anderson gave England control on a green-top Lord’s track on Thursday.
The No. 4 batsman scored 103 and shared a crucial 90-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (36) to take India out of the woods at 145 for 7 after the top order failed to convert their starts into huge scores.
Anderson once again starred for England with the ball, ending with figures of 4 for 54. Stuart Broad was the second best bowler on the day with figures of 2 for 79. Ben Stokes, Liam Plunkett and Moeen Ali took a wicket each.
