The latest on the Indo-Pak cross-border tension is not exactly something which is happening at the Line of Control (LoC) or even remotely near it. It is the entertainment industry in Pakistan which is screaming, claiming that it is unjust to cancel concerts of Pak artistes in India over escalating tensions across the border.

According to news reports from Pakistan, cancellation of scheduled concerts by Ali Zafar and classical singer Javed Bashir in India, have sparked fury amongst Pakistani junta online.

On The Express Tribune website a commenter from Karachi is said to have termed artists who work in India “shameless” for wanting to perform across the border after being “humiliated”. Another was reported to have felt that Pakistan should retaliate by banning Indian films and products in their country.

But Bollywood PR guru Dale Bhagwagar who has handled the media for the likes of Hrithik Roshan, Shilpa Shetty, Priyanka Chopra, Govinda and Vivek Oberoi, has a different point of view.

“Cross border tensions have been there from decades. It’s for our government to decide policy. However, I feel, just like art, music is universal. One can’t put a border between notes,” he quipped.

“Also, as per the admission of many actors and singers from the country (Pakistan), India remains a promising platform for them to make a bigger mark,” added the publicist who has also handled the media for actress Meera.

It can be noted that Pakistani singers like Ali Haider and Sajjad Ali and recent imports such as Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shafqat Amanat Ali, have been welcomed and celebrated by Bollywood with open arms.

Ali Zafar, Sara Loren, Humaima Malik, Meera and Veena Malik have also managed to sign Bollywood films, with Ali Zafar sharing screen space with Katrina Kaif and Imran Khan.
