Given the genre of the film, you expect a dark soundtrack in Raman Raghav 2.0. With composer Ram Sampath and lyricist Varun Grover coming together for this Anurag Kashyap film, you are further assured of the kind of music you are expecting from it.
MUSIC
Raman Raghav 2.0 starts on a trippy note with Sona Mohapatra kick-starting the proceedings with 'Qatl-E-Aam'. A club song with a difference, it is a fusion mix with Sona's voice integrating well with the Western arrangements that have been incorporated in this dark number that has a strong element of seduction to it. While Yash Divecha is roped in to render just a couple of words (Qatl-E-Aam), what really catches your attention is the 'unplugged version' which is indeed worth the time that you spend in hearing it first and then revisiting it repeatedly. Easy on ears and lyrically quite strong, this one deserves to be heard.
It is all about 'cursing the evil' once the team of Nayantara Bhatkal, Ram Sampath, Vivienne Pocha and Nalini Krishnan comes together for 'Behooda'. One of the darkest songs ever heard, expect this one to play in the background even as Nawazuddin Siddiqui goes about his killing escapades in the dead of the night. This one is all about bringing to fore the dark character of Raghav and everyone from the composer to the lyricist to the singers manage quite well to help this situational outing.
Things go further south though with the song that follows, 'Paani Ka Raasta'. Starting with the sound of guitar, this one has Siddharth Basrur and Ram Sampath coming together for this rather philosophical track which takes quite some time settle down for a listener. While it moves ahead at a slow pace and is easy on ears, it is quite disturbing in its content which makes it a rather uncomfortable hear.
It all ends well on a trance mode, what with 'Raghav Theme' set in an upbeat tone, hence setting the stage for a trippy outing in a club. This one has a dark and disturbing tone to it, something that goes well with the film's genre. It would be interesting to see how it plays along with the kind of visuals that Anurag Kashyap must have incorporated in the film.
OVERALL
The music of Raman Raghav 2.0 goes well with the genre, stage and setting of the film. Though one doesn't see it burning the charts, it should fit in well along with the film's narrative.BR>
