Get ready to sweat.

Vancouver’s Delhi 2 Dublin may want to add that as a disclaimer on tickets to their shows. The band delivered a high-energy performance to a packed Mod Club in Toronto early Saturday evening.

The band members trickled in just after 7pm through the main door, just like their fans and with no fuss hopped on stage. Without hesitation, they dove straight into rocking out. It wasn’t long before the quintet transformed under the hot stage lights and got just as sweaty as the crowd. First, an orange hoodie came off, and then another went topless. After that, funky sunglasses were exploited and finally, a fiddle bow needed replacing. All four guys were sporting the Movember look and perhaps Kytami’s zebra print detail was a deliberate fashion choice to match.

D2D started with a mix of their new stuff and their old stuff, and at one point were joined by a dozen or so ladies from the crowd to dance it up on stage to Apples, one of their most popular songs. Another memorable moment came when Tarun had the entire crowd crouched down to the floor. On the count of four, the whole room jumped with their hands in the air to rock out to the next song – to say it was an interactive concert is an understatement. These guys and gal were loving-up the crowd, all while flashing their Colgate smiles. When Sanjay said “We’re Delhi 2 Dublin, from Vancouver,” the crowd returned the favour by giving the band loads of love in return.

Kytami’s fiddle solos had the crowd swooning while Ravi’s dhol beats had them jumping. Andrew’s electric sitar stances gave him presence and Tarun manned the tablas in his bright yellow t-shirt.  Sanjay had a charismatic presence on stage and along with Tarun, kept the interaction with the crowd to a maximum.  Sanjay even fused Imran Khan’s Amplifier chorus at the end of one song, driving the Bhangra lovers in the crowd to throw their hands up in the air.

An encore was demanded and they delivered. In their true mash-up/toss up fashion, D2D performed a short version of Run DMC’s “It’s Tricky” and it was a welcomed treat that the crowd devoured.

The one tiny, little drag about the whole thing was the time – the performance was wrapped up before 9:30pm, even after the encore. I’m sure that was not by choice of the band though.

After the show, Sanjay and Ravi could be found in the back chatting and taking pictures with fans who were buying CDs or contributing to the band’s $10,000 Movember goal. The high-energy performance mixed with the crowds buzz had the Mod Club vibrating for almost 2 hours. With so much energy in the place, it’s a wonder that the top didn’t blow off, releasing the positive vibe and sound of Delhi 2 Dublin onto the streets of Toronto.
