RCMP is in the search for a 27-year-old shooter who allegedly opened fire at two officers in a rural area near Killam. The police are looking for Sawyer Clarke Robison who apparently ran away from his residence shortly before four officers arrived on scene.
According to the police, Robison is not yet facing charges, but is surely wanted as a person of interest. He might be carrying a weapon and is reported dangerous, thus must not be approached.
“He is certainly believed to be armed, likely with long-barrelled weapons,” Sgt. Patrick Webb said Wednesday morning.
The two injured officers, Constable Sydney Gaudette and Constable Sheldon Shah, were rushed to the hospital.
“We have, as you note, a lot of RCMP officers around here, (and) we have an individual who has been what we believe to be significantly involved in the shooting of two RCMP members,” Webb said. “Obviously, that's a big concern for us.”
Police eventually broke into the residence and found a man shot dead. Allegedly, the dead man is identified as Brad Clarke, Sawyer's uncle.
Seniors RCMP officer, Commissioner Bob Paulson, said Wednesday he informed the families of both officers.
“I’m very thankful they’re alive,” he said. “It seems they're both going to pull through this.”
