CJN MusdapherChief Justice of Nigeria(CJN), Dahiru Musdapher yesterday had given his view to implement a death sentence for corrupt officials even as he accused state governors of annoying the independence of judiciary in the country.

Musdapher has insisted after appearing before the senate to minimize the frequency of corruption in the country by allowing for a capital punishment to offenders. He told that the judiciary was ready to commence the enforcement of capital punishment for corrupt persons. After its implementation, this capital punishment for anybody who is involved in corruption would help in the fight against corruption in the land.

Musadapher who appeared before the Senate for screening also called for the review of the law governing Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) stressing that the law became obsolete. The CJN maintained that there is need for the review of the Nigeria Judicial Council law for greater performance, as he vowed to reposition the judiciary for better performance in the country.

When asked about the independence of judiciary, Musadapher said” By and large, the judiciary is independent in this country, probably here and there you may find some odd things going on, but by and large we try to do the best that we can”. He added that he wants to have a better judiciary so that the public confidence on the NJC can be restored. Any efforts to eradicate the corruption from this country would not only be considered but would also be highly appreciated.
