The South Sudan Opposition Liberal People Party [PLP] said it is supporting the national dialogue initiated by President Salva Kiir but with some reservations.
WAU, 27 February 2017 [Gurtong] –“We Support the National Dialogue but we have reservations on some issues; we look at the dialogue as an opportunity to rebuild the country if the principles of openness and inclusivity is applied,” said Peter Majokdit the Chairperson of the party.
Majokdit said the national dialogue should be an opportunity to address the country’s future as well as the governing systems because most of the issues in the country are centred at the heart of governance including rule of laws and human rights.
“When we talk of political future that means citizens must be well aware when the country goes for elections and when a new leadership comes into power to avoid power struggle through arms and suffering of citizens; yes issues to do with the constitutions includes “Presidential term limits” must be addressed, he said.
“Presidential term limits and separation of army from politics such kind of unspoken truth must be addressed for the sake of our coexistence and national building. The President needs to show by action that he is not sticking to power by preparing the country for elections. Apparently the democratic institution needed to be reformed and empowered to ensure a free and fair election is done. It is obviously that the country is unprepared for elections,” said Majokdit.
