A Member of Parliament in the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Assembly Hon. Garang Majak Bol was arrested on Tuesday night by the State security police for unclear Circumstances.

While speaking to Gurtong in a telephone interview from Aweil police jail, Garang explained that his house was surrounded by the State police officers in the evening at around 5pm before he was taken to custody at the Aweil police station despite his immunity as an MP.

Garang revealed that he was arrested according to the orders of the NBGS Governor Hon. Malong Awan.

“I have not been served with a copy of warrant of arrest till now,” Garang said while urging the State authority and the public to know the status of his arrest.

Garang said that, “they searched my house and the arrested me because on Monday I visited the Governor in the SPLM caucus who threatened to arrest me. You have to inform the public about this unlawful arrest – I’m a member of parliament and if there is something I had done wrong, the immunity should have been lifted first.”

However, Garang revealed that during his meeting with the Governor, he openly disagreed with the Governor Hon. Paul Malong over finance issues.

Garang is the Member of Aweil Parliament representing Malek Anin Constituency in Aweil South County.

According to Garang’s wife, Piath Bol Tokmac, her husband was fine few munites before his supprise arrest – “when I asked him what was wrong, he told me that there was a problem between him and the State Governor.”

Piath added that, “I was very surprised to see policemen coming into my home with 4 cars, surrounding my house then forcing my husband into the car like a street boy – this is unacceptable.”

However, the Governor of Norther Bahr El Ghazal State hon. Paul Malong Awan left on Tuesday to Juba, the Capital of South Sudan – he could not be reached for immediate comments.
