The Premier of Gauteng Nomvula Mokonyane and MEC for Health Ntombi Mekgwe decided to take a tour across various hospitals and clinics in the state to check out the issues that an average individual has to face to get medical treatment and later cater to the complaints of the citizens and improve the system of healthcare management in Gauteng.

The Premier spoke to the media while visiting the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and said, “People from North West, Free State and Mpumalanga come here in buses referred to Bara.” She was informed by the medical staff of the hospital that more than 90 pregnant women are treated at the hospital and they have enough space in their maternity unit. Therefore, there is no specific need for investment there as of now.

Visiting the clinics and hospitals on the list, she remarked that there is absolutely no crisis in the healthcare sector of Gauteng. The demand for the sector is increasing but that does not imply that there is a crisis situation. Referring to MEC Health she also said, “Long queues do not mean crisis. We have improved. People we interviewed are happier with the service”.

On the other hand, while speaking to the media some of the regular patients of the hospital registered their complaints that the hospital is in a flowery condition with tight security and all supplies only today because the premier was visiting today. Otherwise they commented that the place is a mess.
