The Minister of Agriculture Tina Jeomat-Pettersson refused to speak to the gathering of the member of the Press Club of Cape Town on Friday realizing that the shadow minister of the Democratic Alliance was present at the event.

The minister was invited to the gathering of the Press Club to address its members after the budget vote debate which took place in the parliament earlier; whereas she did not speak at the gathering realizing that the shadow minister of the Democratic Alliance Pieter van Dalen was also present amongst the invited guests. Upon special request of the organization committee, Mr Pieter van Dalen was politely asked to leave the gathering, to which he agreed, and the minister agreed to give her speech.

The chairperson of the Press Club of Cape Town Donwald Pressly spoke to the media later on and explained saying, "The minister's office accused the Cape Town Press Club of being dishonest about the people it had invited to this breakfast meeting. Van Dalen is a fully paid-up member of the Cape Town Press Club, and as such is entitled to attend any Cape Town Press Club event he chooses to attend."

On the other hand, the spokesperson of the minister said that he did not understand the reaction of the club at the reaction of the minister.
